Emblem of the French Renaissance around the world,
the monument is an architectural feat that bears the double signature
of Francis I, his sponsor and Leonardo da Vinci, the inspiring architect.

France - Loire valley - Loir et Cher (41) - Castle of Chambord : The large staircase with double revolution (or "double helix"), which one probably owes to Leonardo da Vinci, is extended in a single propeller (photo) surrounded by a glass roof bathed in light. The ascent continues in the form of a central column which gives access to the lantern. ONLY_0381400

France - Loire valley - Loir et Cher (41) - Castle of Chambord : The large staircase with double revolution (or "double helix"), which one probably owes to Leonardo da Vinci, includes 2 ramps superimposed in a helix one above the other allowing, thanks to a hollow core pierced with openings, to a person who descends not to meet the one who goes up. Placed in the center of the dungeon, a revolutionary design for the time, it serves the two floors, the terrace, and distributes the rooms in symmetry. This plan is inspired by the Tuscan villas, namely a cross vestibule served by a central staircase. Nearly two hundred carved capitals adorn the pilasters of the staircase. ONLY_0381404

Created at the request of Louis XIV in 1680, this apartment that connects two logis profoundly changes the original architecture of the first floor of the keep. The parade apartment operates according to the label of the court of France: courtiers only access the king's room after passing through several antechambers and provided that their rank allows it. The room is used as a setting for the King's ceremonies of rising and setting, attended by some members of the royal family and high dignitaries of the court.

France - Loire valley - Loir et Cher (41) - Castle of Chambord : Big kitchen. It is arranged in 1782 in a small room under the reign of Louis XIV. Abandoned to the French Revolution, its structure was modified at the end of the 19th century. In 2015, the restoration of the hall was designed to preserve archaeological traces and walls in their historic state. The old fireplace of the sixteenth century, enlarged and supplemented by an oven, was in good condition: only its hood was consolidated during the restoration. ONLY_0381441
